Cerebral Palsy can in fact, cause mental retardation. The most serious type of birth injuries that occur in Massachusetts are cerebral palsy and Erb palsy, anything that involves brain damage or paralysis are among the most serious birth injuries that occur. Cerebal palsy is the most unfortunate that we see because it's a life altering injury. Many times these individuals have no motor skills, they can't stand or walk appropriately and sometimes they suffer from mental retardation, which is very tragic. I'm attorney Tom Kiley.
