With respect to automobile safety, there are particular hazards that apply to children. They have to be restrained. Many times there are defective seat belts that upon impact release and the child is ejected from the vehicle. Or they are sitting in a child safety seat, that's inadequately designed or a manufacturing flaw, that will allow the child to be ejected from the vehicle. Once a child is ejected from a vehicle, the seriousness of the injuries increase dramatically because the child does not have the safety of being contained within the vehicle itself. These injures many times devastating. If they don't cause death they can cause spinal cord injury, brain injury or paralysis. I'm attorney Tom Kiley. I've been representing the seriously injured and their families, in Massachusetts, for over three decades.

In 2006 there were approximately 220,000 child injuries as a result of defective products that are sold in this country. They range from defective toys that present strangulation, or choking hazards to defective bicycles, ATVs, scooters, child seats, playpens just about anything you can imagine your child comes in contact with. What happens is these corporations that make these products put profit before safety. They don't care about our children. We trust them to make products that are safe and will not harm our children, and they don't follow thorough on the responsibility.
