What are DUI enhancement charges in California?

There are certain allegations that the law calls an "enhancement". And what that means is that a judge or a prosecutor can ask for more in regards to punishment. For instance, if you're a mother or father or you're babysitting someone who's under the age of 14, they're in a protected category and your punishment can be significantly more severe. If you refused to take a test, then the punishment can be significantly more severe. If you're driving in excess of 20 miles on a surface street or 30 miles over the posted speed limit on the highway, you could be subjected to 60 additional days in custody if you're convicted of that speed enhancement.
